Aboriginal Pavilion at 2010 Winter Games

On February 2, 2009 members of the Four Host First Nations (Lil'wat, Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh) and the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC) announced the construction of a $3.5 million Aboriginal Pavilion for the 2010 Winter Games.

The Pavilion, which will be erected in the heart of downtown Vancouver, will be a place to showcase the diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis cultures to the world. Representatives at the announcement also included Premier Gordon Campbell, Mayor of the City of Vancouver, Gregor Robertson, VANOC CEO John Furlong, National Chief Phil Fontaine of the Assembly of First Nations, President Mary Simon of the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, and President Clément Chartier of the Métis National Council. Paul Mercer of Nisga'a Lisims Government was also present representing the Nisga'a Nation.

The Nisga'a Lisims Government will continue to work with leaders of the Four Host First Nations to coordinate Nisga'a Nation participation in cultural events leading up to and including the 2010 Winter Games.
