Cole Angus Runs from Gingolx to New Aiyansh
17 year old Nisga'a youth Cole Angus braved the wet and chilly weather conditions to run through the Nass Valley on September 13, 2019.
Beginning in Gingolx at 6:15am, his plan was to run all the way to New Aiyansh, a distance of 75km. Cole explained that his decision to embark on such a feat was in part to bring awareness to mental health, and also a personal one. Having experienced and overcome a myriad of difficult circumstances and challenges, he wanted to demonstrate that people can change. "I want to prove it's possible to change your life," he said. "I want to prove I can do this." With his family guiding his run in vehicles in front of and behind him, he had made it nearly to the hot springs by 2pm. Cole had previously demonstrated his athletic skills this past summer by personally coming in second with the winning team in the Nisga'a Amazing race with energy to spare, impressing the judges by doing push-ups after running 5km!
