Fun Filled Day at Lava Lake

Five teams compete for first place at this year’s 7th annual Canoe Races co-hosted by Nisga’a Valley Health Authority and Nass Valley Tours.

The day began with overcast clouds, intermittent rain, and as the day unfolded the weather improved. The temperature in the morning was 15 degrees although cooler worked in favor for the runners and walkers whom participated in the 10km run and 4km walk. As the day progressed and the canoe races heated up, so did the weather; reaching 23 degrees.

Elders, community members, youth children and tourists were treated to a Salmon barbecue before watching the Canoe races.

Organizers would like to thank all the people who attended the event, congratulate all the participants in the 4km walk, 10km run and the canoe races.
