On June 22, 2018, Gwen Nelson was formally sworn in to office as Village Councillor for the Nisga'a Village Government of Gingolx for the June 12, 2018 by-election.

The meeting took place in the Gingolx Village Government Chambers with all it's elected officials including the Executive Chairperson of the Council Of Elders, Willard Martin, who conducted the ceremony. After the swearing-in, opening remarks took place around the table as each member stated their official welcoming and congratulatory.
