Kincolith Volunteers Save the Day!

Info from Mac Trimble, Villager Volunteerand ESWK Class

With the downpour of rain and quick melting of snow, the Village of Gingolx was faced with the threat of a major flood.

Over
140 villagers reported for shovelling duty Monday night.  All the
ditches were full of snow, and so all culverts were blocked to drain
away the water.  With the help of a bobcat, loader and grader, the snow
was removed and the drains started working.  At one point, the road had
to be dug opened to provide drainage for the pond on Graham Street.
The ditches at some points were about 6 feet deep.  Matters were made
worse by the runoff and waterfalls coming from the mountains.  A group
villagers worked right through the night at Russell Calder's house and
they were successful in diverting the streaming water.  Some houses
with basements had flooding inside.

The road to Kincolith is closed due to major avalanche hazard,
and it is reported now that there are a total of 5 avalanches along the
highway between Greenville and Kincolith.  It looks like it may be
Friday before the roads are opened.  Monday afternoon,  the high tide
affected the water level on the roads, and in some areas the level of
water was 3 feet deep and 30 feet wide.
