National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada
December 6 marks the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada (see proclamation). The National Day of Remembrance was established in 1991 by the Parliament of Canada to mark the anniversary of the murders in 1989 of 14 young women at l’Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal. On this day we honour and remember women who have been victims of violence, and we underscore our commitment to stopping violence against women and ensuring that women are able to move freely and live safe lives in their homes, communities and workplaces.
Thank you for joining us in commemorating this day.
