Nisg̱a’a Youth Learn About the Nisg̱a’a Treaty and Self-Government

Nisg̱a’a Youth Logan Angus of Ging̱olx, Helina Stephens of Lax̱g̱alts’ap and Patrick Guno of New Aiyansh spent an afternoon with Secretary-Treasurer Corinne McKay and Legal Counsel Stephanie Lysyk learning about the history of the Nisg̱a’a Treaty and Nisg̱a’a Government.

Logan, Helina and Patrick will be engaging in a series of information sessions with Nisg̱a’a leaders and administrative staff at NLG to learn more about the Treaty and Governance in preparation for their journey to Ottawa in February 2020 to join other youth from across Canada who also belong to modern Treaty nations in a Modern Treaty Negotiation and Implementation Simulation hosted by the Land Claims Agreement Coalition and the Gordon Foundation.

The trio also observed the NLG Executive monthly meeting and the legislative session of Wilp Si’ayuuḵhl Nisg̱a’a (WSN) in late October.

Nisg̱a’a Youth interested in learning more about the Nisg̱a’a Treaty and Nisg̱a’a Government or wanting any general information or assistance with accessing programs or services can contact NLG’s Nisg̱a’a Youth Engagement Coordinator Leslie Robinson by telephone or email at leslier@nisgaa.net
