TO THE NISGA’A NATION - A Letter from Eva Clayton, President of the Nisga'a Nation

TO THE NISGA’A NATION - November 10th, 2022

On behalf of Nisga’a Lisims Government and in honour of Indigenous Veterans Day November 8th, and Remembrance Day, November 11th.

We take the time today to recognize those who served in World War I, World War II, the Asian Pacific Campaign, those presently serving, and we would like to encourage our neighbours to reach out to the families of survivors. We continue to pray for those who were injured and/or have come home surviving these battles. Let us stand together with those families who have lost their loved ones during war, in unity and in prayers, and show our gratitude for their ultimate sacrifice.

It has been brought to the attention of Nisga’a Lisims Government that there is a need to create our own tributes; please be advised that we understand the importance of such an event and we are working towards providing a safe space for our veterans and family members here, in our nation to paying tribute especially to those who have received medals and awards in their time of service. We will be reaching out to families to come forward and we will work with highest regard to hosting such an event within our nation. In our culture, we have a common bowl that is shared amongst us all, and likewise our losses within and amongst Nisga’a Families, are also communal.

In gratitude we recognize and honour those who continue to serve in today’s Canadian Military and/or other’s; and officially congratulate those who have joined recently and/or will be enlisting soon.

May we take this time to uplift you up in prayer and encourage that you continue to celebrate your loved ones for comfort & strength. And that in your time of grieving, and/or entrusting your loved ones, that may you find peace in the support and love of your nation, the Nisga’a Nation.

Eva Clayton, President
Nisga’a Nation
