Nisga'a Nation represented well in the 59th Annual All Native Basketball Tournament

Sunday, February 11, 2018 - The Gingolx Cultural Dancers did the Opening Ceremonies for the 59th Annual All Native Basketball Tournament (ANBT) with a powerful opening that some players from other nation teams expressed that their performance re-connected them with their cultural roots and reminded them of what this tournament is all about.  Speakers included: Eva Spencer, ANBT Vice-President, Prince Rupert Mayor Lee Brian, Nathan Cullen, MP, Jennifer Rice, MLA - North Coast, Sim'oogit Luudisdoos - Harry Moore and Gingolx Chief Councillor George Moore. The ANBT Committee presented the Gingolx Cultural Dancers with a token of over $6K to assist with their expenses to open the tournament.

The week was full of exciting basketball games played by our outstanding Nisga'a athletes.  All of which played with a lot of pride and heart to represent their home Nisga'a Communities to the best of their ability. We want to encourage all Nisga'a athletes to continue to progress with your training and be the best contender you can be in the upcoming 60th Annual ANBT.

  • The Nisga'a Ladies Division teams included: Greenville Aces, Ksihlkw (Canyon City) and Gitmidiik Thunder (New Aiyansh). 
  • The Nisga'a Intermediates Division Boys teams included: Gitmidiik Storm (New Aiyansh) and Kincolith Sons. 
  • The Nisga'a Senior Division Men's teams included: Gitmidiik Seniors (New Aiyansh), Gitwinksihlkw Lizards (Canyon City) and Kincolith Sons. 
  • The Nisga'a Masters Division teams included: Gitmidiik Masters (New Aiyansh), Greenville Masters and Kincolith Masters. 
  • TOTAL NISGA'A TEAMS: 11

The Nisga'a Nation would like to congratulate the Gitmidiik Masters for making it to the Championship Finals in the Masters Division and placing 2nd in the 59th Annual ANBT!  The Nisga'a Nation is so proud including your hometown of Gitlaxt'aamiks! The team never gave up until the last buzzer and we want to commend the team for a job well done! You are all still #1 to us! Si'aamhl Wilin!
