Olympic Torch Coming to New Aiyansh!

The 2010 Organizing Committee VANOC released the Olympic Torch route on November 21, 2008 and New Aiyansh is as one of the more than 1,000 communities that the torch will pass through. The torch will arrive in New Aiyansh on February 1, 2010.

The torch starts the day with a flight from Fort St. John to Fort Nelson for a short community celebration and then flies to Kitamat and passes through Kitamaat Village and by road to Kitsumkalum and then Terrace. It is set to arrive in Terrace around 12:00 pm on Sunday, February 1, 2010. Terrace is one of about 200 communities across Canada that will host a celebration with the arrival of the torch.

The Olympic Torch Relay Route will then travel to New Aiyansh and then off to Prince Rupert for another community celebration. As the Olympic Flame’s arrival date to the Nass Valley gets closer more details will be available through this newsletter and at the Community Centre ( www.nnkn.ca).

The Olympic Torch will travel 1,000 kilometres by water, 18,000 kilometres by air and 26,000 kilometres on land. It will eventually end up in Vancouver in February 2010, and be lit in the Olympic Cauldron during the opening ceremony.

The Torch Relay Route will be updated and further details will be available closer to the actual travel dates. Please check www.vancouver2010.com for updates.
