Gitwinksihlkw hasn't had a ball field since the school was constructed. Earlier this year the village applied for a license of occupation for some land outside the village boundaries to construct a new ball field. The public was provided with the opportunity to comment on this request. No comments were received.

On Dec. 17 the Executive approved a 20 year lease for the land. The lease includes specific provisions which will enable the village to sell any marketable timber on the land to help offset their costs. The village will pay appropriate stumpage fees and a nominal yearly fee for the use of the land.

The road leading to the land is an old logging road currently only appropriate for industrial use. Issues associated with public use of the road will need to be addressed in the future.
