Public Notice -  Nisga’a In-river Individual Sale Fishery

10 hour opening Monday, July 6th  8:00 to 18:00

And

10 hour opening Wednesday, July 8th  8:00 to 18:00

The downstream boundary for all in-river IS openings is at Red Bluff. The area above Grease Harbour at the entrance to the canyon near Fishwheel 3 Will be OPEN for these fisheries.

Participants are required to possess a valid Nisga’a Fisheries Licence and IS Permit plus Transport Canada Certification.

All vessels must be Nisga’a owned.

Sockeye salmon will be the target species for these fisheriesbut Chinook salmon will also be purchased. Fish will be refused if it does not meet the quality standards established in Nisga’a Fisheries Regulations 2002.  Fish will be purchased only if:

  • Bled immediately after removal from net, and
  • Placed immediately in slush after bleeding.

Any Chum, Pink, Coho and Steelhead caught should be released if healthy or otherwise taken as food. Please report any food catch to a NFWD catch monitor. Please return any tags recovered or record tag numbers from released fish to Nisga’a Fisheries for entry into a tag lottery draw (three draws of $250).

Nisgaa Fisheries management has instructed DFO Enforcement to not permit vessels on the fishing grounds that:

  •  are less than 16 feet in length in the In-river fishery
  •  do not have PFD’s for each person on board,
  •  have no operational VHF marine radio

Any vessels not meeting one of these requirements will be sent to shore or towed to shore to remedy the lack of any of these essential safety or regulatory requirements before being allowed to continue participating in any marine IS fishery.

As a reminder, the limit for Sockeye salmon is 600 per permit and the limit for Chinook is 10 per permit

Permit Sales: Can be purchased at the Nisga’a Fisheries office during regular business hours (9:00 am to 5:00 pm) Monday to Saturday and at the Nisga’a Hall in Prince Rupert during their regular business hours (8:30 am to 4:30 pm). Monday to Friday.
