Regional Soccer Teams seeking Aboriginal athletes to compete at BC Aboriginal Provincial Soccer Championships for chance to become Team BC

Winning teams of 2013 BC Aboriginal Provincial Soccer Championships in U15 and U17 divisions will earn right to represent BC at the 2014 North American Indigenous Games.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The six Regional Committees of the Aboriginal Sport, Recreation and Physical Activity Partners Council (Partners Council) are currently seeking Aboriginal athletes to form Regional soccer teams to compete in the 2013 BC Aboriginal Provincial Soccer Championships hosted at Seabird Island in Agassiz, August 23-25, with selection camps kicking off this weekend (June 8-9) in two of the regions.

This year’s BC Aboriginal Provincial Soccer Championships will feature Regional Teams in the U15 and U17 age divisions for both male and female teams.  These regional teams will not only compete for the Provincial Championship title, but they are also vying for the opportunity to represent BC at the 2014 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) next summer as winning teams in these divisions will become Team BC for 2014 NAIG.

Each of the six regions have undergone a call-out for soccer coaches and will conduct their own Regional Team selection processes.  Regional Teams for both male and female divisions to be entered into the U15 and U17 age categories.  Selection event details are outlined below or download pdf file of this announcement here.

A U13 co-ed division is also included in the 2013 BC Aboriginal Provincial Soccer Championships and is open to any co-ed Aboriginal youth U13 team to enter to compete for Provincial championship title.  As this age category is not age-eligible for NAIG, regional team qualification is not required.
