AN
ARTIST'S conception made available this week shows the design of the
new community hall at Gingolx. It'll replace one destroyed by fire in
late 2006.

It will be 1,516 square feet with the
room to expand later when the need is there. There will be a balcony
inside and around the basketball court which is international size,
explains Valerie Doolan, chair of the building committee.

“The
cost of the gym will be approximately $5 million. The settlement of our
insurance from the previous building is $3.2 million and there are
funds available to us from major maintenance of the previous building
as well. And Gingolx Village Government is working on securing the
final $1.1 million,” Doolan adds.

“Seating will reach up to 820 people, and with the balcony space up to 980.”

The
building committee had hoped to install geo thermal heating but due to
the depth required for that type of project and the amount of water
running beneath it was not going to be as effective as first hoped,
Doolan added.

“We will be adding more windows for
natural lighting and being energy conscious with the lighting,
the water and the kitchen equipment.”

The building will also have a sprinkler system, outdoor alarm system and security alarms.

Completion is scheduled for next year.
