Traditional Apron Making underway at the Nisga'a Museum

In addition to the steady flow of tourists this summer, the Nisga'a Museum is abuzz morning, noon and night with Nisga'a citizens of all ages taking advantage of the Museum's public educational programs.

This week, Vancouver-based Nisga'a artist Mike Dangeli is back for a second year delivering a Traditional Apron Making workshop.

From 10am to 4pm, a well-mixed group of Nisga'a Youth and Elders are learning the basic concept of designing and creating a traditional dance apron, which includes measuring and cutting the leather material and designing, drawing and painting their house crests.  Some have also chosen to design and create their own beautiful artistic designs that tells their personal family story.

In the evening from 6-9pm, Mike is joined by a smaller adult group that are enjoying the same artistic creation under Dangeli's talented guidance.

This workshop was made possible through funding from Nisga'a Lisims Government, the British Columbia Arts Council and the Nisga'a Museum.

For this and other public program opportunities, contact the Nisga'a Museum Programmer Jolene Sampare by telephone, (250) 633 3050, ext. 2011 or by email to jolenes@nisgaa.net.
