WSN Day 1: Sadie O'Donaghey takes oath of office

The July sitting of Wilp Si'ayuukhl Nisga'a  was called to order this morning and the first order of business was the swearing in of Sadie O'Donaghey as Village Councillor for the Nisga'a Village Government of Gitlaxt'aamiks.  Sadie was the successful candidate in the recent July 8, 2014 byelection to fill a vacancy in the Gitlaxt'aamiks village government.

The House then welcomed a visiting dignitary, Mr. Gerald Keddy to address Wilp Si'ayuukhl Nisga'a.  Mr. Keddy is the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Revenue.  In his address to the House, Mr. Keddy shared his experience as a young Member of Parliament at the time the Nisga'a Treaty was being debated in the House of Commons prior to it's May 11, 2000 effective date.

Members of Wilp Si'ayuukhl Nisga'a have a very busy 3 day agenda that will include a motion to adopt the audited financial statements for fiscal year 2013-2014, emergency management systems training for elected officials and the welcoming of BC Minister of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation John Rustad and Minister of Environment Mary Polak who will join WSN on the afternoon of July 31, 2014.
