It's a battle over the land and its resources. The fight has taken place on the land, in the courts and in the media. When government and native groups signed treaty agreements over a century ago, neither side imagined the repercussions. Canada's native people say treaties have been ignored and their rights — from logging trees to fishing eels — have been limited. In the 1980s, frustration grew and failed negotiations turned into roadblocks and deadly confrontation.

Gitlaxt’aamiks, May 10, 2013 – Our first hot topic turns out to be our first podcast from NLG!

Via this podcast, President Mitchell Stevens of the Nisga'a Nation today is launching the Nisga'a Nation's new website at www.nisgaanation.ca in honour of Nisga'a Day, the 13th anniversary of the effective date of the Nisga'a Treaty.

NVHA: Public Health Programs

The Public Health Department at Nisga'a Valley Health Authority offers a Prenatal Voucher Program for expectant mothers throughout the duration of her pregnancy and one year after her baby is born.  This program is desiganted to promote healthy nutrition during pregnancy and after birth.  To be eligible for this program expectant mothers would be required to make an appointment with her local doctors office to confirm a pregnancy, she must reside in a nisga'a village and if she is a new residen
