JOB SUMMARY: The Nisga’a Elections Officer exercises overall direction and supervision of the conduct of elections and referenda. The Nisga’a Elections Officer is responsible for directing and managing the operation of the Nisga’a Elections Office and providing technical expertise with respect to the administration of elections. This is a position of significant trust, requiring professional maturity and integrity. In performing the functions of this position, the Nisga’a Elections Officer must adhere to the Nisga’a Constitution, the Nisga’a Government Act, the Nisga’a Elections Act and related regulations (“Nisga’a Elections Law”), and other applicable Nisga’a law, as amended from time to time.

Organizational Structure: Being a position of significant public trust, the Nisga’a Elections Officer is a unique, stand-alone position appointed by the Nisga’a Lisims Government Executive (the “Executive”) and carried out pursuant to a contract of employment provided by the Chief Executive Officer of Nisga’a Lisims Government. The Nisga’a Elections Officer reports to the House (Wilp Si’ayuukhl Nisga’a), to the Executive and to the President, as required. The Nisga’a Elections Officer must be independent, neutral and work to ensure the fair, equal and impartial administration of Nisga’a elections and referenda. To be appointed as Nisga’a Elections Officer, an applicant must meet the criteria for serving as the Nisga’a Elections Officer under Nisga’a Elections Law, and must agree to abide by the Principles of Elections Administration as set out in the Nisga’a Elections Act.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Business Administration Diploma or other relevant post-secondary education is an asset
• Office management, administration skills and experience in a management position is desired
• Previous employment in an election capacity is highly desirable
• Must possess knowledge of or be prepared to learn Nisga’a election and referenda processes and their implementation in accordance with Nisga’a Elections Law
• Must be available on a full-time basis
• Must be able to work extended or flexible hours as required
• Ability to work under stressful conditions or high pressure situations with tact and diplomacy is required
• Must be skilled in using computers and computer software
• Must possess strong organizational, time management and project planning skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex material to a variety of audiences is required
• Knowledge of Nisga’a language and culture is an asset
• Knowledge of human resource recruitment and selection practices and related legislation is an asset

OTHER:
• 3 recent work related references will be required;
• Valid BC Class 5 Drivers License with current abstract is required
• Successful applicant will be subject to a criminal record check.
