First Nations Climate Initiative - Win a $500 Gift Card (& an opportunity to participate in the Beyond Zero virtual conference)

  • Win a $500 gift card and an opportunity to participate in the Beyond Zero virtual conference on June 7, 2022.
  • In 800 words or less, describe your vision for your community in the year 2060.
  • Your essay should include themes like healthy ecosystems, decarbonization, a thriving economy and First Nations leadership.
  • The contest is open to Indigenous high school and post-secondary students in Canada.
  • Email your entry to info@fncionline.com before May 29, 2022 at noon PT.
  • The winner will be announced on June 7, 2022.

 

Essay Contest Application Rules

 

1. The contest is open to Indigenous high school and post-secondary students in Canada. A student is defined as someone who attends high school or post-secondary school in the 2021/2022 school year or is enrolled to attend in 2022/2023.

2. Submissions will be considered from Indigenous high school and post-secondary (undergraduate and graduate) students in all disciplines.

3. An essay can have more than one author, and any prize awarded will be split evenly between the authors.

4. Essay must be 800 words or less.

5. Entry must be a single document, the header of each page of the essay must include the author’s full name and a page number.

6. Essay entry must include a cover page, which the name of the author(s), mailing address, phone number, and e-mail address. High school students should include school and grade. Postsecondary students should include school, major, and year of graduation.

7. Entries must be submitted via email to info@fncionline.com in .pdf or .doc format before May 29, 2022 at noon PT.

8. Entries may only be submitted once. Further submissions with revisions will not be accepted.

9. Failure to follow these rules may lead to disqualification from the contest.

10. Entries must describe the authors’ vision for their community in the year 2060 and include themes like healthy ecosystems, decarbonization, a thriving economy and First Nations leadership. 

11. Entries will be judged on originality, clear expression of ideas, and how well the authors describe their vision for their community in the year 2060 while incorporating themes like healthy ecosystems, decarbonization, a thriving economy and First Nations leadership. 

12. All entries and ideas become the property of the First Nations Climate Initiative. In addition to receiving a gift card, the winner will be asked to participate in the First Nations Climate Initiative virtual conference Beyond Zero on June 7, 2022.  The winner will be announced on June 7, 2022.
