POSITION: Child & Family Services Court Coordinator (2 positions)
SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with Experience and Qualifications
SUPERVISOR: Director of Programs & Services
HOURS: 35 hours per week TERM: Permanent Full-time LOCATION: Terrace, B.C.
JOB SUMMARY: The CFS coordinator will work directly with the Director, Team Leader, In-House Legal Counsel (IHLC), administrative assistant and the Court Resource Team (CRT) to coordinate approaches in matters involving Nisga’a children under the B.C. Child, Family and Community Services Act (the “CFCSA”), Family Law Act, and Adoption Act (together, “family court matters”). The CFS Coordinator maintains family court files with support of the administrative assistant, ensuring effectiveness and efficiency in organization of matters involving Nisga’a children with Nisga’a lineage. Responsibilities include liaising with social workers and other representatives of the Ministry of Child and Family Services and Delegated Aboriginal Agencies as required, organizing, maintaining and tracking of case files and processing court documents. The CFS Coordinator attends or coordinates court attendance in with the CRT for family court matters, by phone and in-person, liaises and collaborates with various agencies to preserve a Nisga’a child’s cultural identity. Due to the sensitive nature of the working environment, confidentiality is a requirement.
Duties:
 Assisting in the establishment and maintenance of the cultural planning involving Nisga’a children under the B.C. Child, Family and Community Services Act (the “CFCSA”), Family Law Act, and Adoption Act;
 As directed by the Director of Programs and Services in consultation with Team Leader or IHLC, attending court in person, online or by telephone along with, or as the delegate of the Director of Programs and Services;
 Assisting with coordinating and preparing for team meetings;
 Updating of the FileMaker Pro database;
 Liaising with social workers, family group conference coordinators and where necessary counsel; including gathering information, working internally with Programs and Services staff and externally with social workers and other parties to ensure plans have been developed to preserve the connection of children to their Nisga’a culture;
 Liaising with Citizenship staff to assist with registration of eligible children or parents as Nisga’a citizens;
 Liaising with the Director of Programs and Services, Team Leader, the Court Resource Team, and In-House Legal Counsel on preparation and instructions for court;
 Preparing weekly reports for Director of Programs and Services, Team Leader and In-House Legal Counsel;
 Other duties as required.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
 High School Diploma and Human Service Worker Diploma or Diploma or Post-Secondary Degree in social programming
 Prefer Experience with FileMaker Pro; Experience with the Child and Family Services legislations;
 Excellent writing skills and high degree of competency in preparing written material for internal distribution and for court;
 Excellent oral communication skills;
 Moderate to Firm understanding of court processes and the legal framework for children in care;
 Flexibility in schedule

 Valid B.C. Driver’s license and reliable transportation;
 Willingness to travel;
