Weather, hydro and highway conditions

It has been a wet, windy and blustery day in the Nass Valley.  Here's a brief report on weather, hydro and highway conditions:

Weather:

A wind and rainfall warning was issued for our region this afternoon.  The wind and rain are expected to subside later this evening as the system travels south.

BC Hydro:

A hydro outage occurred at approximately 5:00pm this evening for residents of Laxgalts’ap and Gingolx.  It has been reported that the outage was a result of a tree on the power lines at Diksangiik (5 mile bridge) outside of Laxgalts’ap.  A BC Hydro crew has been dispatched.

BC Hydro reports estimated restoration time is 23:00 (11:00pm) this evening.  For updates, visit the BC Hydro website at www.bchydro.com/outages or call their information line at 1 888 769 3766.

Nisga’a Highway 113:

The Nisga’a Highway between Laxgalts’ap and Gingolx remains closed in both directions due to debris on the road.  The next update will be provided at 9:00am at www.drivebc.ca

The Nisga’a Highway is also temporarily closed both ways at the site of the downed power line at Diksangiik (5 Mile bridge) as the downed power line intersects the highway.  The highway at Diksangiik should open after BC Hydro crews safely clear the power lines and restore power.

Stay warm and stay safe!
