Nisga'a Counsel Thomas Berger addresses Nisga'a Legislature

Long time legal counsel, Thomas Berger, addressed the Wilp Si'ayuukhl Nisga'a on Tuesday during the most recent sitting of the Nisga'a legislature.

Mr. Berger spoke to the legislature about the Calder decision, the Nisga'a Treaty, and unpredecented opporutnity available to Nisga'a Nation to set a precedent for secruing opportunities if the Nation decides to proceed with development.

Thomas Berger was long time legal counsel to the Nisga'a Nation and took the Calder case all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada in 1973.  Mr. Berger is a former justice of the BC Supreme Court and one of the most respected aboriginal and human rights advocates in Canada.  He is also welll know for his precedent setting approach on the McKenzie Pipeline Inquiry
