On June 23, 2017 the Nisga'a Business Development Fund assisted Frank and Gail Tait with the building improvements and operations start-up expenses for their local business - Shanika's Burgers and Bites. The diner style cafe' is located right on the main strip (Skateen Ave) in Gitlaxt'aamiks and they specialize in homemade burgers, sandwiches, chicken strips, fish-n-chips and much more!

Shanika's is the third eat-in establishment in Gitlaxt'aamiks and will primarily serve burgers and diner style food not found on their competitors menu's. They will cater to local residents year round and to tourists during peak fishing and vacation periods.

The catering activities of Shanika's will be maintained at their current level with a slight increase in sales as a result of opening. Scheduling for Shanika's must be considered at all times, all catering will be prepared at the diner and delivered by Frank Tait.
