SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with Experience and Qualifications

SUPERVISOR: C&E Supervisor

HOURS: 40 hours per week |TERM: Full-Time Permanent | LOCATION: New Aiyansh, BC

JOB SUMMARY:
Working under the C&E Supervisor, the Nisga’a Compliance & Enforcement Officer will be responsible for implementing the enforcement of Nisga’a laws relating to fish and wildlife and forestry matters on Nisga’a Lands, including the Nisga’a Fish and Wildlife Act, the Nisga’a Forest Act and the Nisga’a Offence Act, and all regulations made under those Acts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Working closely with the Supervisor in developing action plans to resolve specific issues of non-compliance with Nisga’a Law; implementation of administrative processes necessary for the processing of violations of Nisga’a Law;
  2. Reporting on any violations of Nisga’a Law;
  3. Preparing briefing reports and summaries of work conducted in the field or otherwise;
  4. Preparing detailed reports with recommendations to Nisga’a Lisims Government (‘NLG’) Management and legal counsel outlining proposed resolutions to issues of non-compliance with Nisga’a Law;
  5. Assisting in the education of the Nisga’a Nation, Nisga’a citizens and the general public on compliance with Nisga’a Law;
  6. Under the supervision of NLG management, participating in discussions with local government and stakeholder groups to promote local involvement in the enforcement of Nisga’a Law on Nisga’a lands;
  7. Other Duties as assigned;

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
  1. High School Diploma required;
  2. A university degree or college diploma in natural resources, law enforcement or renewable resources management preferred;
  3. Respective Marine / Boating Certificates and Qualifications;


EXPERIENCE:

  1. Experience in Marine Nisga’a / Nass Area;
  2. An asset, Minimum of 2 years work experience related to natural resources, law enforcement;
  3. An asset, conducting inspections to monitor compliance with regulations and standards, investigations of non-compliance: Strongly recommended;


SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  1. No criminal convictions, No adult criminal charges pending;
  2. Ability to take direction from Manager, supervisor and other officers.
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  4. Knowledge of the applicable Nisga’a, provincial, federal environmental and natural resources legislation;
  5. Knowledge of the principles of law enforcement. Having regard to his or her own safety and safety of members and the public.
  6. Ability to prioritize, organize and manage a demanding workload including concurrent initiatives with changing deadlines, emerging issues and competing demands.
  7. Must be flexible with a changing schedule.
  8. General knowledge of environmental values and issues within the Nisga’a Nation and British Columbia.
  9. Be physically and mentally capable to perform the duties of the position. (Lift 50 lbs)
  10. Microsoft Office Software, Excel, Outlook.


The successful candidate will be required to complete/provide:

  1. 3 recent work related references;
  2. Copies of certificates held;
  3. A valid Class 5 Driver’s License and current Driver’s Abstract;
  4. Criminal Record check;
  5. Candidate must successfully complete a Physical Ability Requirement Evaluation (PARE).
