REQUEST FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
NISG̱A’A LISIMS GOVERNMENT BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS
Introduction
The Nisg̱a’a Lisims Government (“NLG”) is issuing this request for expressions of interest from individuals qualified to serve as members of commissions or boards of directors for various organizations affiliated with or serving the Nisga’a Nation.
Some of those commissions and organizations include:
• Nisga’a Valley Health Authority
• Nisga’a Growth Corporation
• Wilp Wilxo’oskwhl Nisga’a Society
• Nisga’a Administrative Decisions Review Board
• External boards with Nisga’a Lisims Government Representation
Boards and commissions are comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds and the required skills and competencies. Some positions require professional expertise and/or specific qualifications. Nisga’a citizenship is required for some positions; however, non-Nisga’a individuals are also encouraged to apply so long as they possess a high degree of respect and appreciation for Nisga’a culture.
This is a general request for expressions of interest. Any applications received will be reviewed and kept on file until vacancies arise.
Term and Expectations
Appointments are generally for a set term, which may range from 2-3 years.
Once appointed, members are expected to be available throughout their term to undertake their responsibilities and fulfill their mandate. They are expected to demonstrate high ethical standards in personal and professional dealings and commit the time required to actively participate and contribute to the applicable board or commission.
Eligibility and Desired Candidates
Different boards, commissions and tribunals have different eligibility criteria. Questions about eligibility may be addressed to Roberta Clayton, at the email address set out below.
NLG is seeking new members who have skills or experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Business acumen
• Finance/accounting experience
• Stakeholder/government relations
• Leadership experience
• Legal
• Governance and board experience
• Healthcare and mental health, including health care management/administration
• Community and cultural knowledge
Expressions of interest are welcome from both Nisg̱a’a Citizens and non-Nisg̱a’a Citizens.

NISG̱A’A VALLEY HEALTH AUTHORITY BOARD OF DIRECTORS
REQUEST FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST
Nisg̱a’a Lisims Government is issuing this Request for Expressions of Interest from qualified individuals to serve on the Board of Directors of the Nisg̱a’a Valley Health Authority (“NVHA”).
Background
NVHA is the designated health services provider of the Nisg̱a’a Nation, a self-governing Nation under the terms of the Nisg̱a’a Final Agreement. NVHA provides a full range of health care services to all residents of Nisg̱a’a Lands (in northwestern British Columbia) and to Nisg̱a’a citizens residing throughout Canada.
Board Composition and Responsibilities
The NVHA Board is composed of a minimum of three to a maximum of five directors, at least two of whom must be Nisg̱a’a citizens.
The NVHA Board’s responsibilities include: managing board affairs; providing strategic direction and oversight to NVHA management; selecting and appointing the chief executive officer; and engaging in regular communications with the Nisg̱a’a Lisims Government.
Term and Expectations
Directors are expected to be available for monthly Board meetings (attendance via teleconference is permitted) and other community or government meetings, as necessary. Appointments are made by Nisg̱a’a Lisims Government for an initial term of three years.
Desired Candidates
Desired candidates will have experience in one or more of the following areas:
o health administration and operations;
o board governance;
o human resources and labour relations;
o financial and accounting systems;
o communications; and
o government services
o experience working with Indigenous communities.
Expressions of Interest are welcome from both Nisg̱a’a citizens and non-Nisg̱a’a citizens, but all candidates must meet the qualifications prescribed by section 44 of the Societies Act.
