Notice in Accordance with the Nisga’a Forest Act

Fire Ban

June 17, 2025

Effective at 12:00 PM on Friday, June 20, 2025, Categories 2 and 3 fires will be prohibited on Nisga’a Lands due to current and forecasted weather conditions. This prohibition will remain in effect until September 15, 2025, or until further notice is provided to the public.

 

    • Category 2 Open Fire:

    • 1 to 2 concurrently burning piles no larger than 2 meters wide, or

    • Stubble or grass burning over an area less than 0.2 hectares, and

    • No Fireworks

 

    • Category 3 Open Fire:

    • Any Fire larger than 2 meters high by 3 meters wide,

    • 3 or more concurrently burning piles no larger than 2 meters by 3 meters wide,

    • 1 or more burning windows,

    • Stubble or grass burning over an area greater than 0.2 hectares

This prohibition will prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety.

In addition to the open fires prohibited, the following activities and equipment are also restricted.

 

    • Sky lanterns,

    • Binary exploding targets,

    • Air curtain burners,

    • Tiki and similar kinds of torches

This prohibition does not include the use of outdoor stoves. According to Wildfire Regulations, an outdoor stove is a CSA-rated or ULC-rated device used outdoors for cooking, heat, or ambiance that burns charcoal briquettes, liquid fuel, or gaseous fuel, and has a flame height of less than 15 centimetres tall.

This prohibition does not apply within the Nisga’a Village lands boundaries, which a volunteer fire department serves.

This ban will remain in effect until further notice.
