Nisga’a Nation Climate Leadership Plan

Climate change is already influencing key environmental, cultural, and economic systems across Nisg̱a’a Lands. Warming temperatures, shifting precipitation patterns, and an increase in extreme events, such as heavy rainfall, flooding, and wildfire, are expected to accelerate in the decades ahead. On behalf of Nisg̱a’a Nation, Nisg̱a’a Lisims Government (NLG) is taking decisive action on climate mitigation, adaptation and resilience through several interconnected initiatives, detailed in this report. Taking a progressive, holistic approach, we strive to get out in front of the climate crisis and to minimize the high risks and negative impacts it presents to our People and fellow Canadians, as well as the lands, waters, flora and fauna that we have stewarded, and relied upon, since time immemorial.
Walking alongside our many partners and collaborators, our dedicated NLG staff within the Capital, Housing and Facilities Operations team worked to progress our various climate initiatives and address the challenges described in this report through four, interconnected priorities:
