POSITION: Nisga’a Environmental Assessment Officer

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience

SUPERVISOR: Nisga’a Environmental Assessment Manager

HOURS: 35 hours per week TERM: Full-time Permanent LOCATION: New Aiyansh, BC

JOB SUMMARY:

Supports the Nisga’a Environmental Assessment Office in the planning of, and management of, Nisga’a land and resource assets. Researches and reports on land and resource related matters and provides timely and accurate information for decision-making purposes.

DUTIES:

1. Support the Regulatory Context pursuant to the Nisga’a Environmental Assessment Act

· Research and reports on applications on Nisga’a Lands

· Conducts site inspections Nisga’a and Federal and Provincial Authorizations

· Prepares maps and other supporting documentation

2. Supports the Overview of Nisga’a Environmental Assessment Process

· Environmental review

· Early Engagement

· Environmental Assessment Designated Project Review

· Compliance, Monitoring and Enforcement

3. Supports planning and land management processes for Nisga’a Lands and Nisga’a Lands assets

· Research planning and land management issues

· Prepares background reports and maps

4. Supports planning and land management processes for Nisga’a Interests outside of Nisga’a Lands

· Nisga’a Highway Corridor

· Parks and Regional Planning

· Environmental Assessment

5. Supports Environmental Assessment Process for Designated Projects under the Act

6. Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE:

· Degree in related discipline and at least 3 years of experience in a land, environmental or resource management environment, preferably in a government context, or;

· At least 5 years of experience in a land, environmental or resource management environment, preferably in a government context.

· Excellent organizational and communication skills.

· Computer literacy.

· Familiarity with the Nass Valley and Nisga’a culture an asset.

· Familiarity with the Provincial and Federal Environmental Assessment process is an asset.

· Familiarity with the Provincial and Federal project referral processes is an asset.

· Experience in Environmental Monitoring is an asset.

· Mapping or GIS experience is an asset.

· Valid B.C. Driver’s license.

· Physical ability to carry out the duties of the job.

OTHER:

· 3 recent work-related references will be required;

· Valid BC Class 5 Drivers License with current abstract is essential as extensive travel may be required
