On July 30, 2026, Premier David Eby and the Honourable Tamara Davidson, British Columbia’s Minister of Environment and Parks, met with the Nisga’a Lisims Government (NLG) Executive Officers at the Nisga’a Nation Legislature to discuss shared priorities supporting the long-term well-being, safety, and prosperity of the Nisga’a Nation.
The meeting reflected the ongoing government-to-government relationship between the Province of British Columbia and the Nisga’a Nation, providing an opportunity for constructive dialogue on key issues affecting Nisga’a citizens and communities.
Among the priorities discussed was the continued growth of the Nisga’a Nation’s economy and the opportunities to strengthen partnerships that create lasting benefits for both the Nisga’a Nation and British Columbia. Discussions focused on supporting sustainable economic development, encouraging investment, creating employment opportunities, and building a stronger regional economy through collaboration.
The NLG Executives also highlighted the importance of continued improvements to Nisga’a Highway 113, the primary transportation corridor connecting Nisga’a communities with the rest of the province. Reliable transportation infrastructure is essential for public safety, emergency response, economic development, tourism, and regular access routes.
Emergency preparedness was another core topic of discussion. With wildfire seasons becoming increasingly severe throughout British Columbia, the Nisga’a Lisims Government emphasized the importance of coordinated emergency management planning along the Highway 16 corridor and connecting routes into the Nass Valley. The discussion focused on strengthening cooperation between provincial agencies and the Nisga’a Nation to improve preparedness, communication, and response efforts to protect residents, travellers, and neighbouring communities during wildfire emergencies.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue working together on priorities advancing reconciliation through practical action, strengthening government-to-government relations, and improving outcomes for Nisga’a citizens and British Columbians.
