PUBLIC NOTICE – TREATY FISHERY

Nisga’a Economic Corporations – Allocation Sale Fisheries

Gingolx Economic Corporation – Treaty Sale Fishery
Monday July 27th and Tuesday July 28th, 2026, – 16 Hrs. – 5:00 to 21:00 (Marine Area 3-12)

Participants are required to possess a valid
Nisga’a Fisheries Licence
All vessels must be Nisga’a owned.

The boundary for all Marine Treaty Fishery’s is the DFO Salmon management Area 3-12 in front of Gingolx

Nisga’a Fisheries management has instructed DFO Enforcement and NLG-Compliance &
Enforcement, to not permit, vessels on the marine fishing grounds that:

• are less than 24 feet in length in the marine fishery
• do not have PFDs for each person on board,
• have no operational VHF marine radio
  Any vessels not meeting one of these requirements will be sent to shore to remedy the lack of any of these essential safety or regulatory requirements before being allowed to continue participating in any marine IS fishery.
  
  The downstream boundary for all In-River Treaty Fishery’s is at Red Bluff. The area above Grease
  Harbour at the entrance to the canyon near Fishwheel 3 Will be OPEN for these fisheries up to and
  beyond the Nass bridge.
  
  Reminder: Net max length still applies in this fishery
  a) 1 net per fisher (nets will be no longer than 40 corks or equivalent of 35 FM (210 Ft) in max length, nets will also be up to 60 mesh in depth and up to 5 ¼ mesh size, within the Nass River (in-River).
  
  Nisga’a Fisheries management has instructed DFO Enforcement and NLG-Compliance &
  Enforcement, to not permit vessels on the in-river fishing grounds that:
• are less than 16 feet in length in the in-river fishery
• do not have PFDs for each person on board,
• have no operational VHF marine radio
  Any vessels not meeting one of these requirements will be sent to shore to remedy the lack of any of these essential safety or regulatory requirements before being allowed to continue participating in any In River Treaty fishery.
  
  Sockeye Salmon will be the target species for this treaty fishery. Pink Chum and Coho Salmon will
  be under the discretion of your buyer whether they will be purchased. Fish will be refused if it does
  not meet the quality standards established in Nisga’a Fisheries Regulations 2002. Fish will be purchased
  only if:
  
  Bled immediately after removal from net, and
  Placed immediately in slush after bleeding
  
  Any Steelhead or Chinook caught, should be released if healthy or otherwise taken as food and
  reported to a NFWD catch monitor.
  
  NOTE:
  The Nisga’a Fisheries and Wildlife Department Reminder: Domestic Harvesting will be closed 24 hours prior to the start of the Economic Fisheries and remain close 12 hours after fishery closes.
  All catch must be reported to a NFWD catch monitor. Any Steelhead, Chinook, caught should be released if healthy or otherwise taken as food and reported to a NFWD catch monitor. Please return any tags recovered or recorded tag numbers from released fish to Nisga’a Fisheries Monitors for entry into a tag lottery draw (Seven draws of $100).
  
  Harvesting requirements: Section 33. Fisheries and Wildlife Regulations
  
  (1) This section applies to an individual sale fishery.
  (2) No person harvesting in a fishery may leave their nets unattended.
  (3) No person harvesting in a fishery may set more than one net from each fishing vessel.
  (4) No person harvesting
  (a) in an in river or in a marine fishery may have their fishing gear in the water
  during the 24-hour period before the opening of the fishery or during the 12-hour
  period after the closing of the fishery, or
  (b) for domestic purposes may have their fishing gear in the water during the 24-hour
  period before the opening of a fishery or during the 12-hour period after the
  closing of a fishery.
  (5) A person harvesting in a fishery must have their fishing gear out of the water before the end of the closing
  of the fishery.
  (6) An enforcement officer may remove and confiscate any fishing gear that are in use in contravention of
  subsection (2) to (5).
  
  Food Fishing will open on Saturday 25th, 2026 at 8 am (12 hrs. after the Treaty Fishery closure) and will close on Sunday 26th, 2026 24hrs prior to the Treaty fishery on Monday 27th, 2026. The Food Fish conservation fishery hrs. have be lifted (9 pm evening closure removed).
