POSITION: Operations Summer Student
SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience
SUPERVISOR: Operations Administrator
HOURS: 35 hours per week TERM: Seasonal – Term LOCATION: New Aiyansh, BC
JOB SUMMARY: The Operations Summer Student position is a temporary position intended specifically for secondary or post-secondary students who are interested in gaining work experience. The primary responsibilities are to provide administrative support to the Operations Administrator in managing Nisga’a Lisims Government facilities & fleet operations (custodial, maintenance and capital) to support the governments Strategic Plan, missions & goals, provides primary managerial coordination of facilities planning, capital development and improvements. The Operations Summer Student should enjoy working in teams, have a strong work ethic and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work closely and provides administrative support to the Administrator to:

  • Respond to Work Orders that arise from Maintenance Requests and Annual Maintenance Work Plan. This includes assessing and prioritizing
    facilities related issues.
  • Maintain and coordinate facilities annual inspections and certification requirements related to HVAC, fire alarms, fire extinguishers, sprinklers,
    elevators, electrical systems and life safety systems.
  • Support the Directorate of Capital, Housing and Facilities Operations in the coordination of construction and renovation projects, annual facilities
    inspections, including maintaining certification records and schedules.
  • Maintain and coordinate vehicle scheduled maintenance and repairs, including maintaining individual vehicle logs and files.
  • Respond to daily shipping and receiving issues of NLG and courier deliveries, referring more difficult issues to the Administrator.
  • Respond to and address routine janitorial and other contract service issues and maintains a record of the current level of service for the
    tendering of new contracts.
  • Verifies goods and services on invoices to the pre-approved purchase orders before submission and payment approval. This includes verifying
    holdback releases and WCB clearance certificates.
  • Track and reconcile project expenditures to specific budgets.
  • Coordinate the physical movement of furniture and equipment between branches.
  • Maintain facilities records, files and maps, including monitoring lease agreements for renewals.
  • Perform facility maintenance and custodial duties for facilities, responsible for a wide variety of duties and functions.
  • Required to operate and maintain department equipment used to perform maintenance, grounds and custodial duties.
  • Responsible for ensuring public safety through the application of due diligence, risk management practices and government regulations.
  • Ensure the safe operation of Nisga’a Lisims Government facilities by applying safe work methods and procedures.
  • Performs other duties related to the function, as assigned by the Operations Administrator
    EDUCATION OR OCCUPATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be a High School or Post-secondary student or graduate;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and manage a workload including concurrent multi-initiatives with changing deadlines;
  • Highly organized and structured with a clear attention to detail;
  • Familiar with standard computer applications for business;

    The successful candidate will be required to have/complete/provide:
  1. A valid BC Drivers’ license, required;
  2. Three recent work related references;
  3. The successful candidate will be subject to a criminal record check.
