POSITION:             Accounting Clerk

SALARY RANGE:     Based on Qualifications

SUPERVISOR:         Accounting/Finance Manager

HOURS:                 35 hours per week

TERM:                   Full Time - Permanent

LOCATION:            New Aiyansh, British Columbia

                              

JOB SUMMARY: Within Fiscal Authority guidelines, in accordance with GAAP

and as directed by the Accounting/Finance Manager, processes prepares the payroll for

staff of the Nisga’a Lisims Government, calculates and distributes Executive Fees and administers the benefits program.

 

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

1)   High School Diploma (Grade 12 equivalent)

2)   Post Secondary Education an asset

3)   Business Administration Diploma preferred

 

EXPERIENCE:

1)   Familiarity with Microsoft Office-Excel

2)   Familiarity with Accpac an asset

3)   Understanding of Canada Labour Code and WorksafeBC (WCB)

4)   One year experience processing payroll

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1)   Prepares the payroll for NLG staff

  • Receives, compiles and verifies timesheets, sick pay and leave applications and entersinto ACCPAC;
  • Verifies and ensures that Receiver General and benefits vendor charges and premiums are processed and expenses distributed;
  • Generates manual payroll cheques;
  • Prepares payroll reconciliations for vacation and elective accruals;
  • Prepares calendar year end employee T4s and Records of Employment;
  • Ensures payments to all regulatory bodies & service providers;
  • Enters pension distribution and forwards to service provider;
  • Ensures all relevant data is filed appropriately and in a timely fashion;

2)   Assists with yearend audit preparations;

3)   Process Accounts Payable;

  • Match purchase orders, packing slips, ect with invoices;
  • Ensure all documents are properly authorized, coded and complete;
  • Enter data into sub-ledger and prepare cheques;

4)   Maintains and administers payroll records for all staff;

  • Securing all payroll files;
  • Ensure completeness of all files;

5)   Act as backup to other Accounting team members;

6)   Other duties as may be assigned.

 

The successful candidate will be required to complete/provide:

  1. 3 recent work related references;
  2. The successful candidate will be subject to a criminal reference check and credit check;
