Language Tools

There are several materials and resources developed for the preservation of Nisga'a Language and Culture.  The list of contacts below is not exhaustive, however will serve as a good starting point for Nisga'a Citizens wanting to begin or continue their journey of learning the Nisga'a Language and Culture.

  1. Wilp Wilxo'oskwhl Nisga'a Institute (WWNI) — WWNI offers courses, certificate and degree programs specializing in Nisga'a Language and Culture.  For course schedule, registration information and online resources, check out their website.
  2. FirstVoices: Nisga'a Community Portal — A partnership between First Voices and WWNI to create an online Nisga'a language database making learning the Nisga'a language easier and interactive.  A free app is also available for download.
  3. School District #92 (Nisga'a) — Nisga'a Language and Culture is integral to daily learning in Nisga'a schools.  Curriculum guides for K-3 and 5-12 can be reviewed at the School District website.
  4. NLG Ayuukhl Nisga'a Department — established to protect, preserve and promote Nisga'a language, culture and history, the department works to ensure Nisga'a people are politically, economically, socially and spiritually healthy and empowered  by a thorough understanding of Nisga'a Culture.  AND has developed various resources, including more recently, the priceless "Anhluut'ukwsim Saw'inskhl Nisga'a - Nisga'a Feast Procedures and Protocols" document.  Contact NLG's Main Receptionist Maxine Azak to purchase your copy!
