NLG Building Tour

The main government building in Gitlaxt'aamiks (formerly New Aiyansh) is the seat of Nisga'a Lisims Government. The soaring design was inspired by a traditional Nisga'a longhouse. The legislative functions and administrative offices of the government of the Nisga'a Nation, the Wilp si'Ayuukhl Nisga'a, are located in the Nisga'a Lisims Government Building.

This new facility was completed around the time of the signing of the Nisga'a Final Agreement. Its dedication was in September, 2000. It houses the Legislative Chamber, executive offices, meeting rooms, legal services, archives, and various public administrative services. The Legislative Chamber was designed to be elliptical in form to reinforce the Nisga'a concept of the "Common Bowl" and consensus-style governance. The Speaker of the House sits at the head of the circle with the traditional "Talking Stick" a revered symbol of respect, order, and authority.

Guided or Self-Guided Building Tour Brochures are available so visitors are able to self-guide through the NLG Building.  Guided NLG Building Tours are by request in advance only due to limited staff, so please ensure to call ahead and schedule a day/time for future guided tours.
