Director Special Projects and Human Resource Development

2 year contract

SUMMARY
Working as a senior leader on the executive team of the Nisga'a Valley
Health Authority (NVHA), the incumbent will provide leadership in
labour relations, human resource development and manage special
projects within a small dynamic First Nations health authority in
northern BC.
Participating as a member of the management team, provide leadership
and coordination of NVHA human resource functions. Develop corporate
human resource strategy, policies and programs, assist senior managers
with labour relations issues and manage special projects.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate NVHA human resource policy development and implementation

  • Assist in implementing NVHA strategic recruitment and selection plans.
  • Coordinate
    NVHA strategic training and organizational development plan to meet
    personal, professional, and organizational needs of NVHA employees.
  • Coordinate the administration and negotiation of union contracts.
  • Assist in the administration of grievances and mediate workplace disputes.
  • Evaluate company culture and provide recommendations on changes to accomplish NVHA goals and objectives.
  • Provide leadership in all human resource policy and procedure development and implementation
  • Assist in the development of short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Lead special projects in terms of managing budget, time lines, human resources
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge and management skills appropriate for leadership within a corporate human resource management organization

  • Knowledge
    and skill to lead recruitment, selection, retention, labour relations,
    employee evaluations and performance management, and human resource
    administration support for employees
  • Demonstrated management experience working for or with First Nations for a period of no less then 3 years
  • Ability to champion, create and implement training and cultural transformation strategies
  • Ability to negotiate and manage collective bargaining agreements and alternative dispute resolution processes.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
