JOB SUMMARY: The
Social
Development
Advisor assists in the development and implementation of targeted social
development programs for Nisga'a citizens residing the 4 villages of the Nass Valley. The Candidate, in collaboration
with the social development village staff implements the following Nisga'a'
social development objectives:

§         
To
assist persons living on Nisga'a lands in maintaining a basic standard of
living;

§         
To
prevent dependency by developing individual and family strengths;

§         
To
assist those eligible citizens to access services that enhance their ability to
assume primary responsibility for their own affairs 

 

This
individual must be highly motivated, possess above average interpersonal,
verbal and written skills, strong analytical skills and be adaptable to a
dynamic work environment. 

 

Responsibilities include:

1.       
Advise
the Director on the administration of all aspects of identified programs and
services established by Nisga'a Lisims Government in accordance with the Nisga'a Social Development  Policy and Procedures Manual

2.       
Maintain
statistical reporting system and monitor monthly expenditures reports as
required by the  

Nisga'a Administration Act;

3.       
Monitor budgets, projects budget requirements and ensure compliance of
Nisga'a Social
Development
Policy and Procedures Manual and funding agreement required by the Programs and Service Act;

4.       
Represents
the Director as the liaison with village social development staff for policy interpretation,
program development and project development.

5.       
Assist
in preparation of operating budgets, as required by Nisga'a Lisims Government

6.       
Provide
professional advice and consultation to Nisga'a Village Governments on planning
and management of Nisga'a community social services and programs.

7.       
Provide
social development training and support to Nisga'a Social Development Staff, Nisga'a Village
Government Administration and Financial Departments.

8.       
Creates
a spirit of teamwork and cooperation with the social development workers and
facilitate social development training experiences

9.       
Liaise
with provincial and federal social development organizations regarding mutual
agreements and sharing of information and changes to policies and practice

10.     Assists in being accountable to the
government of Canada and to the Nisga'a communities for
ensuring the Nisga'a social development procedures have been adhered to.

11.     Conduct policy and analyses of
provincial and federal social assistance polices and develop recommended Nisga'a
social assistance policy for the consideration of the Executive;

12.     Implement uniform reporting format
and social development programs forms including application and appeal
processes;

13.     Develop teaching materials and other
resources for social development program delivery.

14.     Other duties upon request

 

Qualifications and abilities:

  • The
    employer is an equal employer although it reserves the right to give preference
    to Nisga'a citizens, all things being equal, who possess equivalent
    qualifications for the position and have a strong knowledge of the provincial,
    federal and specifically the Nisga'a Social Development Policies.
  • A
    Bachelor Social Worker (BSW) level degree or related professional degree along
    with a minimum five years related experience in Social Development
  • Good
    skills and knowledge of computer software and systems (Microsoft word and
    excel)
  • Substantial
    work experience within a First Nations Administration
  • Demonstrated
    small group facilitations skills
  • A
    valid BC drivers license and reliable transportation
  • Must
    produce evidence of a Criminal Record Check
