POSITION:            Social Worker (Level 1)

SALARY RANGE:    Based on Qualifications

SUPERVISOR:        Nisga‚Äôa Child and Family Director

HOURS:                35 hours per week

TERM:                  2 years (September 2012)

LOCATION:           New Aiyansh, British Columbia

 

JOB SUMMARY: The scope of work covers Guardianship and Resources.  Incumbents are responsible to Nisga‚Äôa Child and Family Services Director and will deliver consistent, effective, professional services.  Liaises with village administrations to ensure support services are in place for clients.  The workers have delegated responsibility for ensuring the child‚Äôs Section 70 rights under the Child, Family and Community Service Act are met and exercising the Director‚Äôs authority under the Act by providing services to children in care in accordance with legislation, guardianship standards and ministry policy.  Incumbent will be required to take necessary training towards Level 2 status

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

1)       Minimum Bachelor in Social Work (BSW) or equivalent;

2)       C-4 Delegation.

 

EXPERIENCE:

1)       Minimum two (2) years child welfare employment or 4 years in human services field;

 

KNOWLEDGE:

1)       Guardianship Standards;

2)       Foster Care Standards;

3)       Detailed knowledge of the Adoption Act, Regulations, Adoption Standards and Policy;

4)       Knowledgeable about the service needs of neglected, abused and exploited children, and also aware of the principles of child development and family planning;

5)       Knowledge of Case Planning and Assessments;

6)       Culturally sensitive to the people they serve;

7)       Ability to collaborate with colleagues who work in other disciplines or services;

8)       Managing risk to children and youth;

9)       C-6 Delegation is an asset.

 

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  1. Facilitating meetings;
  2. Working effectively with foster and adoptive parents;
  3. Goal setting;
  4. Strong organizational and time management ;
  5. Conflict resolution skills;
  6. Good written and oral communication skills;
  7. Valid B.C. Driver License, Class 5 (extensive traveling required)
  8. Subject to criminal reference check
