NLG Information Update

April 19, 2013

This is to advise Nisga’a citizens that there are controlled burns of slash taking place along the route of Northwest Transmission line just off Nisga’a lands (29 Kilometer on the Cranberry) where smoke has appeared, and that the situation is under control.

NAE officials confirm that the situation is under control.  Winds at the site caused the controlled burn pile to blow embers in the direction of the tree lines.

NAE immediately responded by taking fire suppression activities, and stopped all controlled burning at the location. Two tanker water trucks have also been dispatched but so far have not been required and heavy equipment is on site.

Nass Valley residents can be assured that safety officials from Valard Construction and Nass Area Enterprises are on site and are in contact with the Ministry of Forests.

The site will continue to be monitored throughout the night.
