Nisga'a In-river Individual Sale Fishery
Public Notice
Nisga’a In-river Individual Sale Fishery
10 hour opening Monday, August 11th 8:00 to 18:00
The downstream boundary for all in-river IS openings is at Red Bluff. Above
Grease Harbour at the entrance to the canyon near Fishwheel 3 will be
OPEN for this fishery.
Participants are required to possess a valid
Nisga’a Fisheries Licence and IS Permit
plus Transport Canada Certification.
All vessels must be Nisga’a owned.
Coho salmon will be the target species for these fisheries; but Sockeye
salmon will also be purchased.
Any Pink, Chum, and Steelhead caught should be released if healthy or
otherwise taken as food. Please return any tags recovered or record tag
numbers from released fish to Nisga’a Fisheries for entry into a tag lottery
draw (three draws of $250).
There will be no further Marine or In-river sale fisheries until further
notice, due to low sockeye returns.
The Nass Sockeye run size and entitlement amounts will be monitored closely
to determine if there are any further fishing opportunities in the future for the
Nisga’a Sale fisheries.
Fish will be refused if it does not meet the quality standards established in
Nisga’a Fisheries Regulations 2002. Fish will be purchased only if:
• Bled immediately after removal from net, and
• Placed immediately in slush after bleeding.
Nisga’a Fisheries management has instructed DFO Enforcement to not
permit vessels on the fishing grounds that:
• are less than 16 feet in length in the In-river fishery
• do not have PFD’s for each person on board,
• have no operational VHF marine radio.
Any vessels not meeting one of these requirements will be sent to shore or
towed to shore to remedy the lack of any of these essential safety or
regulatory requirements before being allowed to continue participating in
any IS fishery.
As a reminder, the limit for Sockeye salmon is1000 per permit, no limits for Coho
