Nisga'a Youth Conservation Program Summer Camp Starts

Nisga’a Fisheries & Wildlife is pleased to announce to our Youth,
family, friends and Nisga’a community a 10-day Nisga’a Youth
Conservation Program Summer Camp, starting August 10 and ending August
21. The camp meets Monday thru Friday.

The
purpose is to have fun, participate in Environmental Stewardship and
Activism, while developing life skills such as teamwork, self
confidence, gratitude, and leadership. Learning activities in the
Summer Camp will include:

  • Nisga‚Äôa Knowledge, traditions, ways and culture;
  • BC
    Ministry of Education Curriculum Prescribed Learning Outcomes in “/The
    Environmental Learning & Experience: An Interdisciplinary Guide for
    Teachers/”, and
  • Information Technology.

We would like to invite your child (ages 8-12; Grades 3-7), to use
their talents at ‘Summer Camp’ and participate in ten fun-filled-days
from painting, journaling, computer labs (on-line gaming) to field
trips at the Nass River and Gingolx becombing the estuary. Elders will
be involved providing stories-songs and guiding our youth in culture,
language, and history as it relates to Nisga’a uses of Marine resources
and conservation for our grandchildren.

Each day youth will meet at the Nisga’a Fisheries Office, New Aiyansh, starting at 9:00.

Special Note: All Youth will receive recognition and become a part of
this exciting new stewardship group! We will also be having contests
and prizes for best photos, poems, journals, and song to be posted for
public recognition.

Space is limited to the first twenty-one (21) youth. Lunches, gumboots,
and life jackets need to be provided for your child by the parent or
family.
