Reporting to LVG Chief and Council, The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is to provide the overall direction and guidance of Laxgalts’ap Village Government administration in accordance with Treaty and legislative requirements.

Responsibilities:

  1. To coordinate and oversee the administration of all aspects of the Laxgalts’ap Village Government with the assistance of:
    • The Chief Financial Officer
    • The Human Resources Development Department Coordinator
    • The Education Coordinator
    • The Laxgalts‚Äôap Nursery Day Care Licenced ECE Manager
    • The Public Works Manager
    • The Recreation Coordinator
    • The Home Support Supervisor

(All of whom report to the Chief Executive Officer)

  1. To report to, and advise, the Council on the administrative operations of the Laxgalts’ap Village Government.
  2. To oversee the implementation of, and ensure compliance with, the Nisga’a Final Agreement as it relates to the business of the Laxgalts’ap Village Government.
  3. To serve, as required, as acting Clerk to Village Government.
  4. To ensure that the Laxgalts’ap Village Government is operating in conformity with Nisga’a Law and the laws of general application.
  5. To communicate with, and serve as the main contact between, the Laxgalts’ap Village Government and other Nisga’a entities such as, but not limited to, the Nisga’a Lisims Government, the related Laxgalts’ap entities including the Gitxatin Housing Society and the Laxgalts’ap Development Corporation and related companies.
  6. To oversee, directly, departments or functions of the Laxgalts’ap Village Government administration such as, but not limited to, Finance, Human Resources Development, Education, Maintenance, Recreation, Fire and Rescue, Nursery Day Care Services, Home Support Program, Community Assets and Infrastructure.
  7. To function as the Laxgalts’ap Village Government’s primary liaison with the Laxgalts’ap Village Government’s General Counsel.
  8. To actively participate in any revenue development project where the Laxgalts’ap Village Government will partner with any institution to provide revenue for Government projects.
  9. To actively participate in any land and /or property acquisitions which are strategic to the interests of the Laxgalts’ap Village Government.
  10. To service in an advisory capacity to the Personnel and Finance Committee, Programs & Services Committee, Lands and Resources Committee, Law and Order Committee, Economic Development Committee and CFC Committee.
  11. To, as directed, serve as a liaison with other Village Governments and /or the Urban Locals.
  12. Other duties as may be reasonably determined and assigned by mutual agreement.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in public or business administration or equivalent training and a minimum of five years experience of management in the public sector
  • Understanding of the Nisga‚Äôa treaty, legislation, language and culture
  • Excellent client service and people skills - both oral and written
  • Problem solving and leadership skills
  • Expertise with MS Office applications
  • Good understanding of labour relations, WCB and HR practices
