JOB SUMMARY: In accordance with the directions of the CEO or Executive Director, the Director of Communications and Intergovernmental Relations provides strategic guidance in respect of NLG communications and intergovernmental relations with Nisga‚Äôa Institutions, federal, provincial, and other government agencies and institutions in accordance with overall approach to allocation of such responsibilities within NLG.   The director will also assume responsibility for special projects from time to time as established by the CEO or Executive Director. Core functions of the communications department include media liaison, public communications via newsletter and website, intergovernmental relations, organizing Nation events such as the Special Assembly and other public events, coordinates Nisga‚Äôa Nation Emergency Preparedness activities, the communications directorate from  time to time will be called upon to provide support to NLG‚Äôs Nass Area Strategy

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

1.     Post Secondary Degree is a definite asset.

EXPERIENCE:

1.        5 Years communications experience or other equivalent experience

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.     To oversee the operations of the of the communications department and establish and implement a strategic communications plan dealing with website, newsletters, regular communiqu√©s, social media, etc.

2.     Building effective relations with Villages, Urban Locals, and other Nisga‚Äôa Institutions as part of a broader system of government relations within Nisga‚Äôa Nation.

3.     To  assist and support the CEO or Executive Director in managing and building effective communications and intergovernmental relations with Canada and BC,

4.     Providing support to the CEO or Executive Director in respect of operational areas such emergency preparedness, access to information/protection of privacy, and other central functions as assigned by the CEO or Executive Director from time to time.

5.     To address on behalf of the CEO or the Executive Director, any sensitive, difficult or challenging issues within or involving NLG that do not fall within other directorates.

6.     Preparing briefing notes or speaking notes as requested by the CEO or Executive Director.

7.     Other duties as may be required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1.     Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

2.     Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with government agencies and stakeholders;

3.     Ability to prioritize, organize and manage a demanding workload including concurrent multi-initiatives with changing deadlines, emerging issues and conflicting demands.

4.     A Post Secondary Bachelors Degree is a definite asset.
