POSITION:                      Economic Development Manager

SALARY RANGE:

SUPERVISOR:               Chief Executive Officer

HOURS:                          Monday to Friday 9:00 am to
5:00 pm

LOCATION:                    New Aiyansh, British Columbia

 

NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:  Assists Nisga'a Citizens or
Nisga'a entities in their pursuit of economic development ventures. In
accordance with Nisga'a Lisims Government (NLG) direction, assist NLG
departments in their pursuit of commercial and business development, and
undertakes researching and advising NLG in respect of potential industrial
applications and their requirements.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & OTHER ATTRIBUTES;

 

1.      Advise entrepreneurs on:

  • Funding
    sources for business plan development by facilitating access to appropriate
    information;
  • Financial
    resource opportunities such as equity contributions, human resource training
    schemes, from sources such as federal and provincial ministries and Aboriginal
    Human Resources Development Organizations;
  • Facilitate
    and advise entrepreneurs on the application process and presentations.

2.      Network and contact management with
other economic development officers, funding agency liaison officers and
chartered institution lending officers to identify potential opportunities for
entrepreneurs and to stay current with trends and developments.

  • Coordinates
    the development of publications, advertisements, brochures, posters, displays,
    communiqués, ect., as required;
  • Coordinates
    all requests for public speaking engagements with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
    or Executive Officers, arranging for formal responses, invoicing and follow-up;
  • As
    Emissary, receives dignitaries and other visitors to the Nass Valley and arranges tours, as required.

3.      Identifies resource development and
market opportunities and potential funding sources for them, within the
parameters of the Nisga'a legislation, and coordinates access those
funding opportunities.

4.      Assist in NLG's Nass Area Strategic
Plans and Policies.

5.      Work with the CEO on developing an
entrepreneurial partnership with WWNI and UVIC for sustainable entrepreneurial
development.

6.      Process applications, assesses
business plans and recommends project approval under the Nisga'a Business
Development Fund program.

7.      Assist in building an infrastructure
that will enable Nisga'a entrepreneurs within and outside the Nass Area using
the voices of the Nisga'a Citizens as a guide for implementation.

8.      Access appropriate specialized
resources within NLG, such as Officers, Directors and line management.

9.      As required, assist with the
development of medium to long term plans to attract investment to Nisga'a Lands.

10.  Facilitate Nisga'a specific
fundraising strategies to access funds from Foundations or Philanthropic
community

11.  Promote entrepreneurial education
that will assist in success in business development.

12. 
Administer the programs established under the Economic Development Act

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

1.      Bachelors Degree in Business
Administration, Economic or Commerce;

2.      4-5 years related experience dealing
with development agencies and small to medium scale entrepreneurial activity;

3.      Experience in developing and writing
business plans;

4.      Excellent interpersonal and
communication skills;

5.      Ability to use standard computer
applications;

6.      Ability to understand and speak Nisga'a
language an asset;

7.      Familiarity with the Nisga'a
culture and asset;

8.      Current BC Drivers License.
