POSITION:                Museum Coordinator

SALARY RANGE:        Based on qualifications

SUPERVISOR:            Museum Manager ‚Äì Nisga‚Äôa Museum

HOURS:                   35 hrs per week

TERM:                      April to October, 2012 with possibility of extension

LOCATION:               Greenville, British Columbia

 

JOB SUMMARY: Coordinates the Nisga‚Äôa Museum‚Äôs education and public programs and assists with administrative duties. Develops innovative school and public programs that interpret and preserve the Nisga‚Äôa history and culture relevant to the Nisga‚Äôa Museum. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Organizing schedules, developing project budgets and  work plans;
  2. Creating school and public programs for a variety of target audiences to be used both in the museum and in local schools (lesson plans, program summaries and content for the Museum's website and newsletters);
  3. Developing and presenting guided tours to scheduled groups;
  4. Completion of daily records and visitation reports;
  5. Purchasing supplies for Museum administration and program activities;
  6. Recruiting, training and scheduling summer student employees;
  7. Maintaining fiscal responsibility for programs and related marketing;
  8. Produce operational reports to communicate performance and activities related to public programs;
  9. Coordinating updates to museum web site;

10.  Travel may be required;

11.  Other duties as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of professional museological ethics, standards, and practices;
  2. Strong time management and organizational skills;
  3. Superior attention to detail;
  4. Keyboarding skills and ability to use Word, Excel, Outlook, the Internet, and other computer programs as required;
  5. Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and/or Adobe InDesign an asset;
  6. Knowledge of Nisga’a history and culture in addition to school curriculum guidelines would be highly desirable;
  7. Ability to work with a variety of audiences and to speak comfortably in public;
  8. Ability to meet deadlines, maintains program and administrative priorities, and adapt to shifting priorities and timelines.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1.  Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License
  2.  High School Diploma or GED equivalent required;
  3. University Degree in Museum Studies, History or a related discipline is highly desirable;
  4. Minimum 2 years experience working in a museum or cultural setting.
  5. Ability to understand and speak or familiarity with Nisga’a language and culture an asset.

The successful candidate will be required to complete/provide:

  • 3 recent work related references;
  • Applicants must be able to work in Canada;
  • Criminal Reference Check will be required by the successful candidate.
