POSITION:                Museum Manager

SALARY RANGE:        Based on qualifications

SUPERVISOR:            Executive Director ‚Äì Nisga‚Äôa Museum

HOURS:                   35 hrs per week

TERM:                      April to October with possibility of extension

LOCATION:              Greenville, British Columbia

 

JOB SUMMARY: Will inspire and advocate for all institutional activities and programs. Responsible for all program and retail management and administration. Responsive to the strategic plans associated with growing the Museum business overall.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Managing Nisga’a Museum budget and operations including the selection, coordination, supervision and evaluation of human resources;
  2. Effective operating, maintaining, protecting, and interpreting the Nisga’a Museum;
  3. Managing the administration of a high quality museum store program including inventory procurement and control, promotional planning and implementation, marketing, product display, daily accounting, and store security;
  4. Preparing reports for Museum Board of Directors as required;
  5. Public speaking in order to interpret the Nisga’a Museum exhibitions and to promote its programs and effectively communicate with individuals and groups;
  6. Travel may be required;
  7. Other duties as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of business practices, budget, and financial management;
  2. Knowledge of NLG or general human resources management techniques sufficient to effectively supervise, train, and motivate staff;
  3. Ability to prepare, organize, implement, and evaluate plans;
  4. Strong time management and organizational skills;
  5. Superior attention to detail;
  6. Ability to meet deadlines, maintain program and administrative priorities, and adapt to shifting priorities and timelines.
  7. Keyboarding skills and ability to use Word, Excel, Outlook, the Internet, and other computer programs as required;
  8. Knowledge of Nisga’a history and culture in addition to school curriculum guidelines would be highly desirable;
  9. Knowledge of professional museological ethics, standards, and practices highly desirable;
  10. Knowledge of building site maintenance and security methods sufficient to monitor maintenance, supervise operations, and maintain security highly desirable.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or GED required;
  2. University  Degree in Business, Museum Studies, History, or a related discipline is highly desirable;
  3. Minimum 3 years experience working in a museum, non-profit, or cultural heritage setting;
  4. Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License;
  5. Ability to understand and speak or familiarity with Nisga’a language and culture an asset.

The successful candidate will be required to complete/provide:

  • 3 recent work related references;
  • Applicants must be able to work in Canada;
  • Criminal Reference Check will be required by the successful candidate.
