Regional Liason - Truth & Reconciliation Commission

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) is currently recruiting for seven Regional Liaisons. The locations are as follows: Edmonton, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Yellowknife, Thunder Bay, Montreal Island, Saskatoon.

The TRC’s primary goals are to acknowledge the Indian Residential School (IRS) experience, impacts and consequences; promote awareness and public education about the IRS, its impacts and legacy; provide a holistic, culturally appropriate and safe setting for former students, their families and communities as they come forward to the TRC; create and foster understanding, healing and reconciliation through national and community events as well as statement-taking; and the establishment of a permanent National Research Centre.

To assist with this work, and with the establishment of the Regional Liaison Offices, the TRC is seeking seven key individuals for the newly created role of Regional Liaison.

This opportunity will appeal to individuals with a proven ability to co-ordinate communication and facilitate information flow between organizations, communities and individuals. She/he will be responsible for developing strategies, options and approaches for increasing community outreach and dialogue on behalf of the TRC. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing regional frameworks to reach out to all survivors, their families and impacted communities as well as former IRS staff, government and church officials. Regional Liaisons will work collaboratively with the TRC head offices, communities and other organizations in the planning of national and community events.

Regional Liaisons will assist, both directly and indirectly, in coordinating statement gathering activities in their region. Regional Liaisons themselves should be prepared to conduct statement gathering activities within communities.

All persons applying to the Regional Liaison position should be prepared to work in highly emotional, complex and potentially challenging situations. Candidates for Regional Liaison must demonstrate high levels of cultural awareness, political sensitivity, compassion and humanity in all of their affairs.

The Regional Liaison position for Montreal has a language requirement of English and French. The language requirement for the other positions is English.
