POSITION:                Victim Assistance Worker

SALARY RANGE:        Based on qualifications

SUPERVISOR:            Access
to Justice Manager

HOURS:                   25 hours/wk

TERM:                     Part-time Permanent

WORK LOCATION:     New Aiyansh, BC

 

JOB SUMMARY:  Provides police-based/community
victim assistance services to the Nisga'a communities in the Nass Valley. 
Assists victims of crime to access the information, practical assistance
and emotional support and/or referrals required to participate in the criminal
investigation, justice and post-trial processes.  Recruits and trains Victim Assistance
Volunteers.  Position requires high level
of confidentiality.

 

 

EDUCATION or
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION:

1.      Human Services Certificate or equivalent
combination of experience and education;

2.      Mediation or Counseling certificate
is an asset;

 

EXPERIENCE:

1.      Minimum of 3 years employment in a closely
related capacity;

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER ATTRIBUTES (KSAO):

1.      Knowledge of case management
practices; documentation and maintenance of client files;

2.      Knowledge of the Young Offenders Act
and other related legislations;

3.      Knowledge of court and law
enforcement processes is required;

4.      Computer skills is necessary;

5.      Ability to speak and understand
Nisga'a an asset;

6.      Public speaking skills;

7.      Excellent written and verbal
communication skills;

8.      Ability to develop and maintain
effective relationships with clients and law enforcement;

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

1.      B.C. Driver License, Class 5 required;
Travel is required in order to accomplish required duties of the position;

2.      Criminal Reference Check will be
required on successful candidate;

3.      3 references will be required on the
successful candidate;
