International Womens Day 2023

March 8th, 2023 - International Women’s Day

International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8th every year around the world. It is a focal point in the movement for women's rights.

Today, is a world celebration, no matter who we are and where we come from, we all have a journey to call our own, and in doing so, we will continue to honour women across the continents, and those who left us too soon.

As a 3rd generation Nisga'a woman, I stand in honour of each of the Nisga’a women I represent as President.  We are all a reflection of our mothers, our grandmothers, and all women today, and everyday we move forward in celebration with all of our daughters, granddaughters, nieces, and sisters.  We continue to carry out the work of our mothers and grandmothers. We must continue to provide support and guidance to one another. All women deserve to be honoured today because of all that we have survived, including the world pandemic.  And in sorrow of this pandemic, we remember, in loving memory, all who were taken before their time.

Today – let us continue to work in unity, especially in the spirit of S’ayt K’ilim Goot:  One heart, One path, One Nation.  Be the woman you wish upon other women.  We all have so much more to do, and to look forward to.

Happy International Women’s Day!

Eva Clayton, President, Nisga’a Nation
