NAIG Series: Nicholas (Nick) Barton - Under 16 Male Baskeball

Nicholas (Nick) Barton is grizzly bear Tribe from Wilps Sgat'iin from the the community of Gingolx but resides in Vancouver Ts'amiks. 

Nick began playing sports at the age of 6 years old.  He played micro-footie soccer and at the age of 9 began playing basketball.  Since then basketball has become his passion, he played grade 8 basketball at Britiannia and Grade 9 Basketball at Killarney, the grade 9 team made the Provincial Championship playoffs. At the age of 11 he began to play Drive Basketball Club Team and has played year around since.  He is also a member of the Vancity Warriors Basketball team, he played for the U13 team since the age of 9 and now plays for the U17 team and has attended the Jr. All Native Basketball Tournament every year accept for covid years.  Nick was also a member of the U14 Vancouver Coastal Basketball Team and played at the BC Summer Games in Prince George in 2022.  Nick continues his journey with basketball and continues to be dedicated and put in the hours of training on his own time and with club and school teams.  He takes been a member of a team very seriously and rarely ever misses a practice and games.  He has big dreams and will perservere to achieve those goals.

Nick is thankful for his mom, his brother Oliver, and friends and family for all the love, support, encouragement and guidance that they have provided him with through the years.  Nick thanks all his supporters in the East Vancouver Community that have supported the team and individual fundraisers, especially Legion 179 and the Nisga’a Lisims Government for their financial contributions to assist with all the basketball/club team fees and team/individual travel.  Nick would also like to thank all his coaches from the many teams he has played with that became mentors and provided him with the coaching to help shape him to the player and person he is today.
