NAIG Series: Rayna Gosnell - Under 14 Females Basketball
#13 Rayna Gosnell
Rayna Gosnell is ksim ganada, from the house of Ksim Xsaan from the community of New Aiyansh. She is the daughter of Genna and Chris Gosnell and is representing Team BC on the under 14 females basketball team!
"In the beginning of November 2021, I had no interest in basketball. With a little push, I gave it a shot and have not turned back since. I am grateful for the opportunities that have come to me since I started playing basketball. I originally tried out for Team BC just for fun with 2 of my best friends. Three tryouts later, I am very proud of myself to have made it this far. I am very nervous to be playing with a whole different team, but excited for the experience.
I am grateful for how dedicated my parents are to get me where I am today, especially with the fundraising they have done for me. Since I started basketball, I am learning to be a leader with my teammates and whoever looks up to me. I am thankful for the dedicated time my coach Chester Munroe, Lori Nisyok, and my aunty La Berta to help me with training for basketball. I hope to make my family and friends proud while I am away in Halifax! I will play hard and have fun!"
The picture attached is from Jr All Native, taken by her aunty Roberta Gosnell. I find that this picture was perfect, as her teammates stand behind her and she really does lead the Gitmidiik Sonics U13 team. She also plays with the U17 Gitmidiik Jr Thunder team.
